I try to polish it as much as i can, the best of my ability, see how much i can do, cause i notice i slack off during polish stage in the past :p

I've been missing in action haven't I. I was working on the April 11 Second Club. I ranked 20 out of 177, it's not great, but definitely better than my last entry last year. I wanna get top 10 next time :)

Blocking

In A Bar - blocking from andrew tan on Vimeo.

Before i did the Blocking, i recorded myself acting out the shot, i re-recorded it a few times, because i had a hard time feeling the character, i even tried putting on a dress shirt, so that i would feel more like the character(which actually helps). I also found that it's best to act out the shot without lipsyncing to the audio, because theres too many stuff to focus on, cause you have to remember the poses that you gonna do, and you have to listen to the audio making sure the timing is right. Your body tends to do little subconscious movements when you're listening.

So instead, i act out the scene myself, i listen to it over and over and over, until i memorized all the lines and got myself use to the timing. I realised that when you act out without the audio, you can find new poses and subtle movements that you can add in(in my case, was that nose rub).

I read the article about acting out your lipsync in 11 second club

Krag(chibi dino) - walk cycle

Long time no see, i've been busy working on a personal animation, not this one another one, its almost done, about 70-80% done, its a short 12 sec wushu animation. At the mean time, i did a little quicky animation on the side, first time animating a dinosaur, i used the rig called "Krag," which is a chibi t-rex, wished it was abit more flexible though, only one control for the tail isnt enough.

Anyways, i finished this in 3-4 hours. Dino says meow.

Meatloaf animation

I've been working on this lipsync animation for too long, in the end have to cut out some stuff, and its like 3 secs long. I couldnt upload in vimeo, some weird problem.

So anyway, i didnt video taped myself for reference, instead i planed it out on paper, cause since its so short. So here are my progress from blocking to finish.

Flexi walk cycle

I've been reading the Animator's Survival Kit, and watching the videos as well, and i've learn about broken limps in walk cycles, so i thought i apply it in this cycle that i did. It works like magic.

Took me too long to do this cycle, had to redo it, the first one had alot of knee pops and weird things.

I dont know what to call this walk, so i call it "flexi," cause he look so rubbery.

Enjoy.

The touch of a Piano

I was playing the piano at my dad's place yesterday, for like 2 hours or so, couldn't stop playing, i want one so badly. Still deciding to get a piano or not, theres gonna be a Yamaha piano convention in Sept, and if i go during the Bonus hour, i can get one of the digital pianos for 3k+, which is originally 4k+, if i do get it i have to pay by installment of course, cant pay one shot. Recorded myself playing too, will upload later. In the mean time, i'll share another one of my basic animations i been working on, bouncing ball in an obstacle, oooooo scary.

"Punch her in the head"

I've been animating another lipsync shot, just for fun. This time im using an audio clip from one of my favorite Judd Apatow movies(actually all his movies are awesome) "40 year old virgin." This is the scene when Seth Rogen was talking to Steve Carrall, dont know where in the movie exactly, but here you go, enjoy.

Took me 7 hours to complete.
